Bannon Testifies for 9+ Hours & is Subpoenaed
Steve Bannon, former adviser and associate of president Trump, spent more than nine hours testifying before the House Intelligence Committee as part of their investigation into Russian interference of the 2016 U.S. Presidential elections. The testimony took place in a closed-door session so details of Mr. Bannon’s testimony will not be made available to the public. Though Bannon’s testimony lasted for over nine hours, Fox News reports that he will be returning for further testimony on January 18, 2018.
…with the president having taken to referring to Bannon as “Sloppy Steve.”
It would reason that the Intelligence committee would want to spend a lot of time questioning Bannon as he was not only the former Senior Counselor and Chief Strategist to president Trump, but was also campaign manager for then-candidate Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign; when the Russian interference and alleged collusion between Russia and the Trump campaign occurred.
Bannon recently stepped down as chairman of Brietbart News, a post he held both prior to and after working for Mr. Trump, after explosive comments attributed to him were printed in the Michael Wolff novel Fire and Fury. Some of those comments allege illegal acts either by members of the Trump family or the Trump campaign. Those comments have led to something of a public battle between the president and his one-time adviser, with the president having taken to referring to Bannon as “Sloppy Steve.”
During Bannon’s first day of testimony, news also broke that he has been subpoenaed by the special counsel, Robert Mueller, to testify before a grand jury as part of his investigation into the Russia matter, which is being conducted simultaneously with the House investigation, and the Senate Intelligence Committee Investigation.
