The New Yorker is seeking an energetic, digitally savvy editor to direct our online coverage of technology, the environment, health, medicine, and science.
Primary Responsibilities: Assign and edit a mix of reportage and commentary by magazine and Web staff writers, columnists, and other contributors. Generate story ideas and exercise creativity in how to cover technology, the environment, health, medicine, and science, whether through our writers or by working with our interactive, visual, and audio teams. Maintain New Yorker standards at all times in editorial rigor, accuracy, and fairness. Work collaboratively with fellow editors, fact checkers, producers, photo editors, video editors, our social team, and interactive team. Seek out new writers who might become regular online contributors to The New Yorker. Desired Skills and Qualifications: At least three years of experience as a reporter/writer or editor, preferably with a strong background or demonstrated interest in coverage of technology, the environment, health, and science. Superb line-editing skills and exceptional judgment in conceiving and assigning stories; the ability to work collaboratively with some of the finest writers in journalism. A readiness to work in a fast-moving news environment and to juggle multiple stories and tasks. Familiarity with The New Yorker, its style, and its writers.
